Exciting News!
The studio is in full swing preparing for:

Capricious clay
IT DOES NOT ALWAYS COME OUT AS I WOULD WISH – and as is demonstrated, porcelain is not as easy to smash as you might think!

If I am not happy to put my name to a piece of work, it must go. It can be brutal, but that is quality control.

Transglobe 40 yrs on

On 2nd September 2019 The Transglobe Expedition celebrated their 40th anniversary. Members of the team which circumnavigated the globe through the Polar axis came together from all over the world at the Royal Geographical Society and enjoyed an evening of recollections and jollity. There was an exhibition of equipment and photographs taken of the expedition, and the bust of Ran had a commanding position at the entrance to the RGS. In these pictures we have some photos from the expedition and the book To The Ends of the Earth which was written about their adventures. We also have Ran seeing the finished bronze of himself for the first time as we set up the exhibition. Posing next to it during the evening, we have Oliver Shepherd, who did the South Pole with Ran and Charlie, and my old boss, John Blashford-Snell.

SPS Exhibition FACE2019

The Exhibition was a tremendous success, with lots of visitors all making wonderful comments about the pieces.
Opening night, Robert Hunt and Olivia Musgrave give great speeches. Annie Tempest poses beside Egon Schiele, Ran’s fans cluster round him!

It is official: Ran Fiennes makes it …. into the Society of Portrait Sculptors’ annual exhibition FACE2019
3-8 June 2019, La Galleria, Pall Mall, 30 Royal Opera Arcade, London SW1Y 4UY.
It has been a very long process, but worth the wait. Please come to the gallery to see the result in the flesh (or in the bronze, I should say!) along with the other amazing exhibits by an international array of sculptors.
